Review of Black Matcha Tea from Matcha DNA

Black Matcha is a blend of powdered green and black tea. Let’s take a closer look:

Green tea and black tea come from the same tea plant, Camellia sinensis. We all know that tea is loaded with the powerful antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg). What’s the difference between green and black tea? Green tea leaves are withered and steamed. Black tea leaves are crushed and fermented. This fermentation process converts EGCg to other compounds, which made people assume that black tea has less health benefits than green tea. Researchers have proven this wrong. The health benefits solely attributed to green tea in the past years are now shown to be also found in black tea because of the loads of theaflavins and thearubigens contained in the latter. No wonder black tea is also gaining popularity nowadays because of its equally numerous health benefits.

When it comes to flavor, black tea is generally stronger. Green tea usually loses its flavor within a year, while black tea retains its flavor for several years. Because of this, black tea is a favorite base for flavored tea.

So… both black and green tea are rich in antioxidants, and black tea gives more flavor. This is where Black Matcha becomes a perfect match. Since it is a blend of the two, you get a combo of green and black tea in your cup, and you enjoy both the multiple health benefits and great flavor!

Black Matcha comes in a resealable packet. The packaging is neat and ensures the freshness of your powdered tea. The product is organic, BPA-free, and lead-free.

To prepare:

1. Pre-warm cup with hot water, then discard water. (On my second try I  omitted this step and it still tasted good.)
2. Place 1/2 tsp of Black Matcha in the cup.

3. Pour hot water and stir.
4. Sweeten if you want.

I also prepared the tea in a teapot, so I could share it with my husband. I pre-warmed the teapot (1), put Black Matcha into the teapot (2-3), added hot water and stirred (4):

Aside from consuming your Matcha Tea in the traditional manner, you can also use it to create a drink with a twist. It is great for lattes and smoothies. I also made a Matcha iced tea. I first mixed the powdered tea with a small amount of hot water. I then added cold water, ice, and a little bit of honey and lemon. It was awesome!

  1. I didn't realize there are so many different teas, When I had tea which was not often since my family preferred other drinks. Husband , coffee. I like tea but don't keep it on hand like I used to. I made sun tea a lot when the kids were home. Strange how as family shrinks, so does variety. Take care of that little family of yours and hope all is well.
