UNICEF: On Balloons and Birthdays

Balloons can be used for practical purposes of medical treatment, meteorology, transportation, and military defense. But their decorative use is probably the most famous of all. There is just something magical about balloons, which evokes fun, laughter, and celebration. A colorful bunch of balloons can bring a smile to faces of young and old alike.
I want to share with you a birthday present I received from UNICEF last October.
This was written on the envelope flap:

I was like, “Balloons?” I wondered why it was written there when I only got an envelope.
This is what I found inside:
An uninflated balloon with the organization's logo. How sweet is that?

Again, a balloon has proven to put a smile on one’s face, my face. Though far from my family, I felt a sudden rush of celebration.

Again, I would like to thank UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund, formerly United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund) for the thoughtful gift.

  2. Lea you are one of the most positive people I know, well maybe not in person, but I feel you are a friend and I have known you since you were a baby. Sound crazy??? No but I am old enough to have known you. I need to get out of the funk I have been in and quit complaining. Thanks for the tip on greeting cards. How about those balloons?? Nice.

  4. I like balloons. I liked them better when I was young(er). Then I liked to pop them. In college I liked to drop them filled with water from the 3rd floor of the dorm on unsuspecting students walking underneath the windows. I also like those balloons in comic strips 'cause you can write anything you want in them. Well, almost!

    And Happy Birthday to you!

  5. Good morning Lea. We have snow. Quite a lot. I have to look for the prescription for my glasses and thank you so much. They are about as strong as anyone can do for me. That is ok. Just glad I can see as good as I do. Happy late Birthday. I know you will be glad to see your Husband. Plus I bet you can't wait for Mateo. Spunky is not a big fan of the snow. I had to get a new house phone and of course bought the cheapest I could. 39,99 on sale. Then I had to set up the answering machine and the hand sets. Let me tell you I am not good with so many settings, but they are all that way. I left the bluetooth for cell phones I just did not set it up.

  8. Actually it's a unique idea for them to have send you a balloon, I think it's a great thought. Like you said, there is certainly something special with balloons that they've been used as decoration for decades. Even children in this new era of technology love balloons.
