Spotlight On: Water Taxi Ride in Venice

In front of Hotel Danieli, where Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp stayed for the movie The Tourist, there is a gondola station if you want to start a gondola ride at the Grand Canal.

In case you want to experience Hotel Danieli, it is next to The Bridge of Sighs. It’s a very elegant place to stay. It showcases Murano glass chandeliers, antique furniture, and classy decorations that are very Venetian. Rates start at € 275 per night. Well, we stayed in a different hotel... not as expensive but a decent one.

In the movie, however, Jolie and Depp did not ride a gondola. They rode a water taxi.

A water taxi

A water taxi is just a speedboat and fits up to 10 to 14 passengers.

Rates of water taxi rides:
€ 13 as initial charge the moment you step aboard, plus € 1.80 for each additional minute of travel. This rate applies for a load of up to 5 passengers.
An additional € 10 per person is charged when there are 6 or more passengers. For 6 bags or more, each luggage is charged € 5.

The drivers may charge an extra amount during Sundays and holidays but they really are not allowed to do that.

  1. Hi Lea, I have the film on DVD, watched twice because I love the scenery. I have a few pieces of Murano glass, a particular favourite is a tortoise with a shell in the millefiore design. I have always been fascinated by the millefuire pattern.

Hope you have a splendid weekend.

  2. Beautiful picture Lea, seems nice to be in a taxi boat to go, but I think the price is very high, also the hotel is too expensive.
    Have a nice weekend!

  6. I would like both the gondola and the water taxi. Wouldn't mind riding with Angelina, either. :-)

Re your comment on Ocala: The other Horse & Hounds is a rather old, nondescript building about 6-7 miles west of I-75 on US 27. Not nearly as impressive as the new one.

  7. Thanks Lea , for taking this elderly lady on trips with you and showing me around. The best of all is Mateo. Such a cutie. I would love to have a little one like that but it would not be fair to the dog at our age. Yep, I think I will send Joe down to Jack. I love my husband but he drives me nuts some times.

  9. Hi Lea,
I have never been to Venice, it does sound like it is quite expensive. Looks lovely though. I love your little dog, he is beautiful. We have a cat called Tinker, gets all her own way, really spoiled, but we love her.

  10. What a beautiful boat. I love boats, probably because we live on a lake. But the one in the photo does look inviting. Venice is on my top 10 places to visit. Wishing and dreaming.
